JUST SAY NO

When someone asks you to do something, how often do you just say, “Sure thing.” Or “Yes”. We frequently say yes to a lot of things we don’t really want to do, which leaves us feeling overburdened by our to-do list days later. Despite the fact that you agreed to your commitments in the first place, you eventually grow dissatisfied by them. If something is necessary, it is worth asking.

Must be worth it: The race for power or Leadership

The race is not for the swift…

It is simply impossible to ignore the current tussle and struggle for power
amongst all individuals eyeing public offices especially the title of president even as we look forward to the coming elections. Like always, many Nigerians led by the strong resentment they have for the current government for the years of suffering they have had to withstand are determined to vote in the lesser devil (“The devil you know is better than the one you do not know”, many of them say. But the question of how well they know the devil they think they know is a question that tags along with defensive answers). And so likewise, there are others who even after years of suffering are willing to vote in a candidate simply because, “He understands the system and would most certainly do better”. Nigerians being Nigerians by forgetting that they said the same thing the last time. Why the question of what the ones who have been in the system enough to understand it are still behaving very much like the system confuses them is never asked is downright astonishing and of course, laughable!

DO YOU HAVE YOUR VOTERS CARD?

The upcoming general elections in Nigeria in 2023 might be remembered as the most thrilling one since the nation’s fourth democratic transition in 1999 especially for the Nigerian Youths. For a number of reasons, set against the backdrop of one of Nigeria’s most difficult economic realities, a polarizing national politics, chronic and escalating insecurity, pervasive corruption, and a general sense of unhappiness among Nigerians, one would not be considered hasty to draw the conclusion that 2023 represents, possibly, the most crucial election year in Nigeria—a make-or-break season. Looking at youth representation in leadership roles, it paints a completely different picture.

Virtual Library: An essential for university students

concept of e-learning technology, graphic of realistic computer notebook with book’s pages as screen

What would you do if you were in need of a study material that is missing in your department’s library? Let me give you another scenario, imagine you needed to know something about Arc111 or another course you have to diligently prepare for since you have a test coming soon and you
cannot find a resource in the department’s library to help you with it, how would you go about it? What books or websites could help you? Now, this is where virtual libraries come into play. Virtual libraries are online databases that contain literature on all or almost all spheres of life.
Thanks to technology and its improvement over the years, they can be accessed through computers, tablets and smartphones. The best thing about these digital gadgets is that they allow you to search for information without having to leave your room. You can even access them at any time of the day or night.
In today’s world, we are always connected to these devices and we are constantly checking emails, browsing social media, checking out websites, watching videos, listening to music, and playing
games. We can also use these devices to learn more about subjects or topics that we are curious about. And truthfully, Virtual libraries are just one way to make this possible. There are many different types of virtual libraries available and some specialize in specific fields such as medicine, law, business, etc., while others cover a wide range of topics.
The two main categories of virtual libraries are; subscription based and free. Subscription based virtual libraries require users to pay a monthly fee in order to gain access to their content. While free virtual libraries offer unlimited access to their content. According to a report by the International Association of Virtual Learning Environments (IAVLE),
there are more than 2 million virtual learning environments available worldwide. In fact, IAVLE estimates that over half of universities have some form of virtual library.

WILL IT EVER END?

“Will it ever end?” The constant question that has been running through almost every Nigerian student’s mind who has in one way or the other experienced the staggering educational system likened to a man who finds it so difficult to breathe, one who is always struggling to take in Oxygen. The question of how we keep using the same instrument over and over again at the expense of the student’s future. Like in the case of using a cutlass for over 20years and not ever thinking that it would become blunt and very well ineffective. Thinking that the same tool or instrument would work and make the government listen at the expense of the progress of the “leaders of tomorrow”. The question of whether the leaders of tomorrow would ever get the chance to indeed be leaders of tomorrow, if they would ever get the chance at the future they so desire to have, the one that they deserve to have. Will it ever end?
