VOX POP: STUDENTS SHARE THEIR VIEWS ON THE PAST AND PRESENT EXECUTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

In line with our theme (AASA and its political space) for the week and even as the department and students prepare for electioneering activities. In our vox pop segment this week, we asked aasaites to share their thoughts on the past and present executive members of the department. Here are some of the replies we got.

To be candid we just hope for the best at the present, I really don’t know about wisdom but I think Pope tried but obviously not his best.

Micheal (300level)

Majority of students doesn’t see the works of the executives because the department seems to control everything even the dues you meant to pay to the exco office is been paid to the departmental office. We see capital project done by other excos in other department but here we not seeing anything, they only come out to organize social event which the department management will still determine how it will go. So I think we have excos controlled by the departmental management, they are just they to occupy seat though isn’t their fault because they can’t control the management which makes up their own lecturers. Meanwhile everyone is working for the development of the department but the department seems to be controlled like a military regime stuff but the excos are like dogs without teeth.

Personally, I don’t see the impact of the present executives in the department. Past executives were quite active and they sometimes spoke to the students of the department to make sure that they were available to the needs of the students. But now, I’m not even sure I know most of the present executives even though their tenure is by far the longest. It is as if they are just in the post to prove the point that they held a position at a particular point. Cause I don’t feel they are actually accessible to the students of the department as actual executives should be.

The past executives was better than the current ones because of the way things were being handled. It was less joke and more seriousness but the current one is more jokes and less seriousness.
Well, I just don’t have much to say on the question but my thoughts on the past student executives of our department is more former than this current executives. I think this current executives takes things for granted and are too friendly with Students which makes their duties less official.
